Poker is a card game played worldwide. Players use five cards to create the best hand possible. The player who has the best hand wins the pot.

First, players are dealt cards one at a time. They can choose to make a bet, fold, or check. Whether to make a bet or not depends on whether the player is bluffing or not.

The best hand is the straight flush. That is five cards of the same suit in any order.

A high card can break ties. Two hands that have the same rank are tied, but a high card breaks the tie. If two hands have the same rank but a different suit, then the higher ranking is the winner.

The kitty is a special fund. It is used to pay for new decks of cards. Each player is given a portion of the kitty.

Most poker games involve an ante. This is a small bet that each player makes before the cards are dealt. Depending on the game, the ante can be anywhere from $1 to $5.

The first betting phase is called the “ante” and the last is called the “showdown.” The ante is usually smaller than the actual pot. Once the ante is settled, the next player is dealt a card and the first round of betting begins.
